The Aurora Sharks swim team was inaugurated in 1960 to offer a competitive swimming program to the City of Aurora and the youth members of the Aurora Family YMCA. Through the years the team has been an important part of many families' lives in the greater Aurora community, teaching the YMCA principles of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility through our sport. Team numbers have changed from year to year, but today we have almost 130 young athletes aged 5-18 who represent our team.
The Aurora YMCA Sharks swim team is a multiple age-group swim team that competes in the "Illinois Swimming" chapter of USA Swimming and in the "Town & Country" YMCA district. Shark swimmers include first year and novice swimmers up through State & National meet qualifiers. We compete in local competitions as well as YMCA Districts, USS & YMCA State championships, and YMCA & USS Nationals.
We believe in helping our athletes to improve self-esteem through individual goal-setting and concentration upon self-improvement. We structure our program to focus on fun, improved technique, and racing to be YOUR best. To sum this in one statement...
Striving for excellence...Doing our best, to make ourselves better!
If you have some interest about joining our swim team you can call the Aurora YMCA at (630) 896-9782 and ask for the Sharks head swim coach Bryan Lederhouse.
